Actress and law student Yasmien Kurdi hosted a recent event by the Department of Justice Action Center (DOJAC) and said it highlighted how the law should be used to protect and empower the voiceless.
The event was a lecture series and information dissemination campaign held at the Arellano University School of Law, featuring speakers from the DOJAC and the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT).
The speakers were Atty. Linn Dantes of the DOJ Action Center, Assistant State Prosecutor Joan Carla Guevarra, Program Director of the DOJ Action Center, Atty. Immaculate Marie Adzuara, OIC-Chief of the IACAT’s Programs and Policy Division, and DOJ Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez.
In a Facebook post, Kurdi described the event as “meaningful and eye-opening.”
It discussed issues concerning the Safe Spaces Act, gender-based violence and harassment, school bullying and violence, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
She said it serves as a reminder that everyone should be free from the fear of harassment, violence, or discrimination based on gender.
It also underscored the key role that education, awareness, and knowing our rights play in creating safer spaces for everyone, she said.
“Grateful to have been part of an event that goes beyond the classroom and reminds us why the law should always be used to protect, empower, and give a voice to those who need it most,” she said.
