Yari kayo! DOT charges Boracay tourists who used fake COVID test results
The Department of Tourism is suing six tourists who went to Boracay and faked their negative COVID-19 test certificates.
The agency announced that it filed falsification charges against the six Manila-based visitors through Marc Judicpa of the DOT Region VI-Boracay Field and Compliance Monitoring Office.
Separate efforts to hold the tourists accountable are being pursued by the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Aklan and Malay local government units. It’s a strong warning signal for others looking to copy the illegal tactic.
“We will continue to be vigilant and ensure that these collaborative interventions will deter entry of such delinquent and unwanted visitors. This is how serious the DOT is in the enforcement of existing health and safety rules,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said.
Boracay reopened to local tourists last year but subject to strict health requirements.
