Who’s anti-PH now? Carpio exposes how Parlade undermined landmark ruling on West PH Sea
General Antonio Parlade is out labeling government critics as enemies of the state, but it turns out he’s the one spewing misinformation that would act as a disservice to the nation –– that’s according to abogado Antonio Carpio.
Although the two are namesakes, they are on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as defending Manila’s rightful claim to features in the West Philippine Sea.
“Because the Permanent Court of Arbitration is not a court, General Parlade called the Arbitral Award a mere ‘piece of paper’ that embodied a ‘kangaroo ruling,'” Carpio wrote in his latest Philippine Daily Inquirer column. “Like the Chinese communist propagandists, General Parlade also questioned why the arbitral tribunal decided the case without the participation of China.”
To Carpio, this shows that Parlade may not be as patriotic as he claims to be, going as far as opposing the strong public claims made by his boss, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and even President Rodrigo Duterte.
“General Parlade is operating outside the chain of command, repudiating his Commander in Chief and ridiculing the Defense Secretary who is the President’s alter ego,” the retired Senior Associate Justice added.
“General Parlade has clearly given ‘aid or comfort’ to Communist China, which has occupied and continues to seize Philippine territory and maritime zones in the West Philippine Sea.”
