The prosecution in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial is expected to begin presenting today its witnesses to support allegations that she had amassed unexplained wealth or assets not declared in her statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.

Its first witnesses are retired Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, Ombudsman Records Division Officer-in-Charge Atty. Karen Batu and Securities and Exchange Commission director Gerardo del Rosario of the Company Registration and Monitoring Department.

The prosecution will put Cabotaje-Tang on the stand to discuss principles governing public accountability, integrity in public office and mechanisms for addressing undisclosed and unexplained wealth and prohibited business interests.

Batu is expected to testify on Duterte’s SALNs submitted to the Office of the Ombudsman, while Del Rosario would authenticate and identify records of companies linked to the Vice President and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio.

Article II of Duterte’s impeachment case accused the Vice President of betraying public trust when she allegedly accumulated unexplained wealth disproportionate to her lawful income and failed to fully and truthfully disclose her assets and liabilities.

The prosecution has also subpoenaed bank records in relation to these allegations.
