Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida said the Department of Justice is in the final stage of preparing its extradition petition against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy with the legal review or “legal scrubbing” nearly completed.

Vida said the DOJ is now finalizing the petition before filing it before a local court in connection with the United States’ request for Quiboloy’s extradition.

“Final stage, final stage, legal scrubbing na lang kami. We’re almost ready to file that petition,” Vida said during a press conference.

Asked if the DOJ would soon file the petition, Vida replied: “Yes, DOJ will be filing soon.”

He said the Philippines would comply with its obligations under its extradition treaty with the United States.

“Of course the Philippines would comply with its obligations under its extradition treaty with the US,” Vida said.

He also noted that the DOJ is guided by the Supreme Court’s rules on extradition, which provide procedures and safeguards for persons sought for extradition.

Vida said the timing of the filing would depend on several factors, including the participation of Quiboloy’s lawyers and the court that would eventually evaluate the petition.

“Within the year, tandaan niyo maraming factors yan. May abogado yung kabilang panig at may husgado na magtitimbang na lahat ng panuntunan,” he said.
