The University of Santo Tomas (UST) has tightened security measures across its campus following recent school attacks in the country, according to The Varsitarian, the university’s official student publication.

The enhanced measures include mandatory bag inspections at all building entrances and stricter enforcement of university ID rules as UST strengthens security amid concerns over incidents of school violence including the recent attacks in Tacloban City and at Ateneo de Zamboanga University.

The measures took effect immediately with the Campus Safety and Security Office also ordering stricter screening of visitors and inspection of vehicles entering the campus.

Students, faculty members, support staff and other authorized persons are required to tap their university IDs upon entry and wear them visibly while inside the campus.

Visitors must use designated gates, present valid government-issued identification and undergo security screening.

Vehicles will also be inspected using undercarriage mirrors, while drivers and passengers may be asked to roll down their windows.

Security personnel will step up patrols at campus entrances, corridors, stairwells, parking areas and other common spaces.

UST urged members of the Thomasian community to report suspicious activities through its local hotline at 8222, mobile hotline at 0919-072-9940, or the national emergency hotline 911.#
