Torreon reacts to VP Sara arrest warrant: ‘The laws are flying!’

“What is happening to our country? A Vice President is an impeachable officer yet a warrant of arrest is issued against her for grave threats? The laws are flying!”

This was the reaction of lawyer Israelito Torreon to reports that a court in Quezon City had issued a warrant for the arrest of Vice President Sara Duterte over a grave threats case.

Torreon questioned the development in light of Duterte’s status as an impeachable officer, saying the issuance of the warrant raised questions about the application of the law.

“The laws are flying!” Torreon said.

The Department of Justice had said that Duterte’s status as an impeachable officer does not prevent the government from prosecuting her before the regular courts.

The DOJ has maintained that the criminal case filed against Duterte before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court is separate and distinct from the impeachment proceedings against her before the Senate.#
