Taguig prosecutor throws out VP Sara’s perjury complaint vs Madriaga

The Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office has dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte’s perjury complaint against Ramil Madriaga, who claimed that he served as her bagman.

Madriaga earlier alleged that he worked for Duterte and delivered millions of pesos in cash on her orders.

Duterte denied the allegations and said Madriaga was disseminating false statements to undermine her possible candidacy for president.

In its resolution junking Duterte’s perjury complaint, the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office said that the evidence was insufficient to bring the case to court.

It said that while Duterte presented evidence disputing Madriaga’s allegations, “the evidence on record does not establish prima facie, with reasonable certainty of conviction, that respondent knowingly and willfully made materially false statements under oath in violation of Article 183 of the Revised Penal Code.”

Madriaga had executed an affidavit stating that he started working for Duterte in 2018 when she was Davao City Mayor and gathered intelligence for her.

He alleged that she directed him to form a group for her candidacy in 2022, and it was funded by “POGO operators and drug dealers.”

He also alleged that Duterte and her security aides directed him to deliver millions of pesos in cash in duffel bags and vehicles he was instructed to transport.
