The Bacolod City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has meted out a total penalty of 480 years on a taekwondo coach accused of raping three minor students a total of 12 times.
In a recent decision, Branch 43 Judge Philadelfa Pagapong-Agraviador imposed the maximum penalty of reclusion perpetua, or up to 40 years’ imprisonment, on 31-year old Allan Labayen Arellano for each of the 12 counts of rape he faced.
Arellano was also ordered to pay his victims P225,000 for each count of rape or a total of P2.7 million.
The coach was accused of raping his students aged 10, 11 and 12 in separate incidents in 2008 and 2009, which allegedly took place in his house and in their classroom after taekwondo practice.
He allegedly shamed the victims and threatened them that he would not allow them to join tournaments if they refused to give in. He also allegedly told his victims that he had a gun and he would bomb their homes.
