Sultan Kudarat broadcaster succumbs to injuries
A radio broadcaster who was seriously wounded in a gun attack last October 31 in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat has succumbed to his injuries before dawn on Sunday.
Benjie Caballero of Radyo ni Juan died in a hospital where he was confined for multiple gunshot wounds sustained from an attack by still unidentified suspects.
He was waiting for a tricycle in Barangay Isabela at around 1:15 p.m. when motorcycle-riding gunmen arrived and shot him several times.
Bystanders brought Caballero to the nearby St. Louis Hospital for treatment.
The victim is reportedly a correspondent for Remate and president of the Sultan Kudarat provincial task force on media security.
In his previous posts on Facebook, Caballero said he has been receiving death threats.
Probers have yet to determine the motive for the shooting.
Recently, the Department of Justice announced that it will order an investigation into the attack on Caballero.
“The DOJ will create a special investigating team for this purpose and will coordinate with all law enforcement agencies,” Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said.
