Wala sa hulog: Sereno tops list of SC magistrates with dissenting opinions in 2017
Ousted chief justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno was out of lock step with her former colleagues in the Supreme Court by issuing decisions frequently at variance with those from the majority.
Documents obtained from the high court showed Sereno produced eight separate opinions, all dissenting, in 2017, as against Associate Justice Antonio Carpio who wrote five, former associate justice Presbitero Velasco Jr. came up with two, and none from outgoing Chief Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro.
Two other appointees of former president Benigno Aquino III, were in the same league with Sereno as Associate Justice Marvic Leonen made nine dissenting opinions, while Justice Benjamin Caguioa, seven.
Justice Francis Jardeleza, another Aquino appointee issued two, both en banc cases.
