Senate asks DOJ to put Michael Yang on Immigration watch list
Controversial businessman Michael Yang should not be able to leave the Philippines so easily as he faces a Senate probe on mishandled pandemic funds.
Senator Richard Gordon of the Blue Ribbon Committee made a formal request to Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra to place Yang, who is believed to be the main actor that allowed government deals with microbusiness Pharmally Pharmaceutical to bag billion-peso contracts, on a hold departure order or Immigration watch list. This is to prevent him from fleeing the country in the middle of the investigation.
“In view of the abovementioned inquiry, we would like to request that Mr. MICHAEL YANG AKA YANG HONG MING, Former Presidential Economic Adviser, be placed on the Bureau of Immigration Hold Departure Order, Watch List, or Lookout Bulletin, whichever is appropriate, and that the Committee be informed whenever he is about to leave, or whenever he arrives from without the country,” Gordon’s letter read.
Yang skipped the Senate hearing on Monday, citing high blood pressure.
