The Supreme Court has welcomed fair criticism from the public, saying it should not be overly sensitive to remarks against the judiciary amid Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent statement that she no longer trusts the courts.

SC spokesperson Atty. Camille Sue Mae Ting said the court respects Duterte’s statement but maintained that judicial cases are decided based on the law and evidence presented before the courts.

“As long as it’s, I mean, we shouldn’t be very sensitive about the criticisms from the public, but then any action from the court will be evidence(-based),”Ting said during a press conference.

Ting was also asked whether Duterte, being a member of the Bar and the Vice President, should be required to explain her remarks because they could influence public trust in the justice system.

Ting said no action had been taken yet and that the court would have to decide whether to act on Duterte’s statement.

“Well, we will have to wait for the Court’s action, if any,” she said.#
