SC suspends 2 judges in Abra, assigns acting judge
The Supreme Court has assigned a judge to handle cases in Abra regional trial court (RTC) following the suspension of two judges who were suspended on separate administrative cases.
According to Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, Judge Richard Domingo of Candon City, Ilocos Sur regional trial court branch 23 was designated as acting judge of Abra RTC.
In addition to his regular duties in his own court, Domingo will handle cases pending in Abra RTC until the suspended judges return to work.
His assignment was to ensure the continuation of hearing of cases in the Abra RTC, especially with the May elections fast approaching with election-related cases surely to clog courts, Marquez said.
The SC ordered the preventive suspension of Bangued, Abra RTC Branch 1 Judge Raphiel Alzate and Branch 2 Judge Corpus Alzate last Feb.12.
Both of them are surnamed Alzate.
Their suspensions came after Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin vowed to cleanse the judiciary starting in Abra, his hometown.
Raphiel was preventively suspended for six months pending investigation of the SC on administrative charges arising from cases involving nullity of marriage.
On the other hand, the SC extended the preventive suspension of Corpus for another six months for alleged violation of internal rules.
