Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin signed the two contracts for the consultancy services for the Detailed Architectural and Engineering Design and Project Management of the Court of Appeals (CA)-Cagayan De Oro (CDO) Station building at the en banc session hall, Supreme Court in Padre Faura, Manila.

Signing as among the witnesses were CA-CDO Station Executive Justice Edgardo A. Camello (left) and CA Presiding Justice Romeo F. Barza (third from right). Also present were CA Associate Justice Remedios Salazar-Fernando (second from left) and SC Associate Justice and former CA Presiding Justice Andres B. Reyes, Jr., (third from left).

The multi-storey building will be built on a six-hectare lot in Indahag, Cagayan De Oro City, Misamis Oriental as part of a planned CDO Judicial Complex, which was conceptualized after a fire gutted the CDO Hall of Justice in 2015. Since its establishment in 2004, the CA-CDO has been leasing the YMCA Building in Julio Pacana, Cagayan De Oro City.

In his message, Bersamin said the contract signing “marks an important milestone in the endeavor to give the CA-CDO a permanent home as befitting a station of the second highest court of the land and seedbed of future Supreme Court Justices.” He added: “The building will stand as the pre-eminent judicial building in Mindanao, the symbol that the Rule of Law holds sway over the island.”

The CA Station in Visayas located in Cebu City for cases from the 6th to 8th Judicial Regions and the CA Station Mindanao located in Cagayan De Oro City for cases from the 9th to 12th Judicial Regions were established by virtue of Republic Act No. 8246.
