SC Justice Tijam joins colleagues one last time
Supreme Court Associate Justice Noel Gimenez Tijam received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Supreme Court Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (SC PRAISE) Committee “for his around three decades of stellar public service,” during his last flag ceremony on January 7, 2019 at the SC grounds in Faura, Manila on the occasion of his retirement.
Atty. Maria Carina M. Cunanan (right), Deputy Clerk of Court and Chief Administrative Officer and Chair of the SC PRAISE Committee, honored Justice Tijam for his “eloquence both in spoken and written word honed by his many years as professor and lecturer.”
Justice Tijam also addressed Members of the Court, SC officials and employees for one last time saying, “[r]etirement truly feels like a graduation of sorts; an end to a career in the Judiciary but a commencement of a new chapter as a private citizen. I feel very blessed and humbled to have been given this incredible opportunity to be part of the Highest Court of the country. Having been appointed as an Associate Justice has truly been a privilege, a dream come true, a thrilling and enriching experience for me. Objectively speaking, I will be leaving the office of the Supreme Court, but personally, this almost feels like leaving home.”
Justice Tijam was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte on March 8, 2017 and compulsorily retired on January 5, 2019. He has ascended the judicial ranks starting as a Regional Trial Court Judge of Quezon City in 1994, promoted to the Court of Appeals in 2003, until his appointment to the High Court in 2017.
