SC en banc session for tomorrow cancelled too

Aside from the anti-terror law oral arguments, the Supreme Court likewise cancelled tomorrow’s en banc session.

Session will resume on Tuesday, March 2.

Earlier, the SC announced the postponement of the 4th round of oral arguments on multitude of petitions challenging the constitutionality of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

In a notice signed by clerk of court Edgar Aricheta, the SC disclosed that the oral arguments was cancelled “considering that some of the justices are on self-quarantine.”

“Considering that some of the justices are on self-quarantine as a health precaution for COVID-19, you are hereby informed, as per instruction by the Honorable Supreme Court, of the suspension of oral arguments scheduled on February 23, 2021.”

“The oral arguments will resume on March 2, 2021 at 2:30 pm,” the notice read.

A total of 37 petitions have been filed before the high court challenging the constitutionality, in whole or in part, of Republic Act No 11479.

President Duterte signed a stricter anti-terrorism bill, condemned by critics and rights groups as a weapon to target opponents and stifle free speech.

Duterte has defended the law, saying law-abiding citizens should not fear as it targets terrorists including communist insurgents.
