SC designates special commercial courts as competition courts
Special commercial courts have been designated to act as competition courts and handle cases involving violations of Republic Act 10667 or the Philippine Competition Act (PCA) and related laws.
In OCA Circular No. 08-2020, the designated competition courts in the National Capital Judicial Region (NCJR) shall have jurisdiction over competition cases arising within its territorial jurisdiction, while those outside the NCJR shall have jurisdiction within their respective provinces.
Also, the special commercial courts in the cities of Quezon, Manila, Makati, Pasig, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro are authorized to act on applications for the issuance of inspection orders, which shall be enforceable nationwide.
RA 10667 includes any person or entity engaged in trade, industry, and commerce in the Philippines. It also applies to international trade that may impact trade, industry, and commerce in the Philippines.
