Sandiganbayan launches 2018 Revised Internal Rules, CJ elated
Chief Justice Lucas P. Bersamin commended the Sandiganbayan “for having zealously acted as the instruments of protecting the public trust in the government.”
This, as the Sandiganbayan launched the 2018 Revised Internal Rules of the Sandiganbayanon July 11, 2019 at The Ballroom, New World Manila Bay Hotel in Manila.
Bersamin said, “Without such special internal rules, some serious issues with due process dimensions might go beyond control. We also need the internal rules to inform and guide the Bar and the public in general on the workings of the Sandiganbayan and this objective will surely safeguard the Sandiganbayan’s institutional integrity as well as see to it that the Sandiganbayan and its Justices will function in full accord and compliance with myriad constitutional and statutory requirements.”
The special institutional requirements of the Sandiganbayan as a collegial trial and appellate court demand the adoption of special internal rules, he added.
He also congratulated and thanked Supreme Court Associate Justice Diosdado M. Peralta for having ably chaired the Special Committee on the Special Committee on the Revised Internal Rules of the Sandiganbayan.
The 2018 Revised Internal Rules of the Sandiganbayan constitute a framework of guidelines to govern the various proceedings and processes in the Sandiganbayan. They are a necessary supplement to the Rules of Courtand should work alongside the resolutions, circulars, and other issuances promulgated by the Supreme Court insofar as applicable in governance of all actions and proceedings before the Sandiganbayan, the Chief Justice added.
The Sandiganbayan is a special court having jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases involving graft and corrupt practices and such other offenses committed by high public officers and employees.
