Roque reveals Duterte irked with NUPL, but vows lawyer killings to be resolved

Harry Roque said he felt wronged on behalf of President Rodrigo Duterte after the National Union of People’s Lawyers did an online call to action of sorts while the abogado president was delivering a video statement in one of their events.

A reporter asked Malacañang about a virtual event wherein NUPL members changed their display photos into “Stop attacks on judges and lawyers” right when a video of Duterte’s message is playing on the screen.

“Hindi po alam ni Presidente iyan because it was pre-recorded,” the Presidential spokesman said. “Ni-request po iyan ng IBP President and I made sure that the President will make this tape. So, I feel kind of bad na iyong accommodation na nga ni Presidente was met by this kind of action.”

“Before making the recording, sinabi nga niya (Duterte) na medyo masama ang loob niya sa IBP because of a past incident pero nonetheless he proceeded to record a message because he knows that IBP is still the association of all lawyers, his fellow lawyers,” he added.

“The President did not know about it, he probably does not care… Hindi ko maintindihan iyong kaligayahan na makukuha ng mga NUPL lawyers na iyan.”
