Robredo to decide on 2022 plans by September the earliest
Camps calling for Vice President Leni Robredo to vie for the presidency next year are in for a long wait for her decision.
The abogado VP told GMA News that she has not made up her mind on which position she will pursue during the next elections, but disclosed that she is “open” to aim for the presidency.
She also revealed that she actually prefers a local post, or even none at all, if it’s not up to her political party and her advisers.
“Kapag ako iyong kumandidatong pangulo, kailangan handang-handa ako. Handa hindi lang sa trabaho pero pati sa laban, at doon ako may problema. Alam niyo naman wala akong resources,” Robredo said over the weekend, admitting it would be an uphill battle.
“Pero ako naman, as in all my other elections, ano ako, open ako sa lahat ng possibilities,” she added, disclosing that there are calls for her or her daughter Aika to run as Camarines Sur governor.
If she pursues this, she would potentially dislodge the Villafuerte dynasty in the process.
“Mas masaya talaga ako sa lokal… dahil sa akin, iyong happiness ko sa paninilbihan nakukuha ko sa direct contact sa karaniwang tao, sa mga ordinary people,” Robredo added.
When will the public know her future plans?
“Sa akin, siguro earliest na pag-decide September — just before the filing… kung saan ako pinakakailangan doon ako,” the VP added. “Iyong pagpe-presidente, possible pa rin siya. Possible pa rin. Iyong sinasabi ko lang, siguro kung sufficient iyong resources ko, mas madaling mag-decide for me. Pero hindi eh.”
