Robber who killed widow of reggae singer Papadom gets 40 years
The Makati City Regional Trial Court (RTC) has sentenced to 40 years’ imprisonment the robber who killed the widow of reggae singer Dominic “Papadom” Gamboa.
In a recent 20-page decision, Branch 149 Judge Giovanni Vidal found Nitro Ison, alias Ricky or Zenki, guilty of robbery with homicide.
Ison was accused of killing Ma. Amparo “Teng” Santaromana-Gamboa, who was found at the corner of Kalayaan Avenue and Barrio Bisaya in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo with a single gunshot wound in February 2016.
Besides imprisonment, Ison was ordered to pay the victim’s family P75,000 in civil indemnity, P283,770.50 in actual damages, P75,000 as moral damages, and P50,000 as temperate damages, with 6% legal interest per annum from the finality of the decision.
A taxi driver identified Ison as the one who stole his vehicle at gunpoint and used it to pick up Santaromana-Gamboa.
At the time, Ison already faced charges arising from similar schemes of stealing taxis and victimizing female passengers.
Ison was only arrested two months after the victim’s body was found on the street.
Santaromana-Gamboa’s killling came three years after her husband, a member of the band Tropical Depression, succumbed to kidney failure.
