Brazilian police on Wednesday were investigating the grisly murder of a Bolivian couple and their eight-year-old son after finding their chopped-up bodies in suitcases in a Sao Paulo suburb.
The remains of the 39-year-old man, Jesus Reynaldo Condori, his 38-year-old wife, Irma Morante Sanizo, and their son Abner Morante Condori, were discovered late Tuesday, authorities said.
They had been placed in plastic bags in three suitcases found in the bathroom of a house in the Sao Paulo neighborhood of Itaquaquecetuba, police told the G1 news website.
Officers had been called to the address on a kidnapping tip-off, following the family’s disappearance on December 23.
The prime suspect in the case is the brother-in-law of one of the victims who, according to reports, had been hired as an employee in the clothing workshop owned by the family.
“The owner of the house (where the bodies were found) said he had rented it to a man who has not yet been located. He is the husband of the sister of one of the victims,” the security secretariat for the state of Sao Paulo said in a statement.
The motive for the murders was not immediately known.
