Public interview of 3 senior SC justices eyeing CJ post to proceed on Friday
The public interview of three (3) senior justices of the Supreme Court vying for the soon-vacant chief justice post will proceed as scheduled on Friday, March 12.
This, despite an earlier announcement from Chief Justice Diosdado Peralta suspending work in SC offices and buildings from March 11 to 14 to give way for sanitation and disinfection operations.
According to SC Public Information Office chief Brian Keith Hosaka, offices in charge of the interview and livestreaming, like the Judicial and Bar Council and SCPIO, will be reporting for work.
The schedule of the public interview via Zoom app is as follows:
9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Hon. Estela M. Perlas-Bernabe
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Hon. Alexander G. Gesmundo
3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hon. Ramon Paul L. Hernando
The SC has approved Peralta’s request for early retirement effective March 27, 2021, or during his 69th birthday.
Peralta was supposed to retire on 2022, or upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70 years old.
His request for early retirement was approved by the SC en banc on January 5, 2021.
Last November, the high court accepted the application for early retirement filed by Associate Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla due to health reasons. #
