PNoy’s first Sol-Gen Cadiz is Isko’s bet to take Leni’s old CamSur seat
Former Solicitor-General and Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) president Jose Anselmo “Joel” Cadiz has announced his candidacy for representative of Camarines Sur 3rd District—the former seat of Vice-President Leni Robredo—under the banner of Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso.
Cadiz said in a Facebook post that he was endorsed by Sonia Roco, widow of 2004 presidential candidate Raul Roco, as the standard bearer of the party Aksyon Demokratiko, which now serves as Domagoso’s vehicle for the presidency.
“I am humbled to be tasked to carry the mantle of Raul in Naga and Cam Sur. I will do my best to make him proud,” Cadiz said in the post, accompanied by a picture of him swearing an oath to Domagoso.
Cadiz served as the first Solicitor-General of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III from July 2010 until his resignation in February 2012 to return to private practice. He is currently a senior partner at Cadiz Tabayoyong & Partners.
He represented the IBP as its lead counsel in its petition challenging the constitutionality of the controversial Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), and appeared in oral arguments from February to May 2021.
The 3rd district of Camarines Sur, which consists of the independent Naga City, the provincial capital of Pili, and six adjacent municipalities, is currently represented by Robredo’s party-mate Gabriel Bordado, a second-termer eligible for reelection.
