The Philippines’ improved rankings in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment is the result of the government’s reforms and continued support for schools, learners, and teachers, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday.
He made the remarks at a recognition event for schools and education partners that participated in the PISA held in Pasay City.
In his speech, the President underscored the country’s improved standing across three assessment areas, in comparison with the 2022 PISA results.
Earlier, the Philippines posted its highest-ever mean scores in the PISA in reading, mathematics, and science in 2025.
It recorded mean scores of 373 in science, 371 in mathematics, and 367 in reading – all an improvement from its 2022 PISA results.
Marcos said Filipino learners are capable and excellent students, as long as they are taught properly.
The 2025 PISA assessment included 8,702 15-year-old learners from 208 schools across the country.
The President attributed the improved scores to the collaborative combined efforts of teachers, parents, schools, local government units, and other stakeholders, as he conceded that there is much to do.
“We have improved from 2022, but we have a long way to go to catch up with our neighbors in the region, with the rest of Asia, and with the rest of the world,” Marcos said.
