PH won’t be disadvantaged by Pax Silica project, assures Palace

The government will see to it that the Pax Silica hub will not be to the disadvantage of the country or Filipinos, Malacañang said on Wednesday.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. firmly believes that investments for the AI-powered hub should benefit the Philippines.

“Nagsalita din po ang Pangulo. Hindi maaring gumawa ng anumang transaksyon na ang Pilipinas o mga Pilipino ang siyang madedehado,” Castro said in a press briefing.

“Kailangan po natin na magkaroon ng mga investments pero hindi nangangahulugan na ang ating mga kapwa Pilipino ang magdurusa,” she added.

She made the remarks after the United States slapped tariffs on Canada after talks over a trade agreement fell through.

Castro said the government would not tolerate actions that would violate the country’s laws or Filipinos’ rights.

“Hindi po natin pababayaan kung ano ang itinatalaga ng ating batas, hindi po natin iba-violate ang karapatan ng ating mga kapwa nating Pilipino,” she said.

Earlier, the President said the Pax Silica project is a good deal that would create more jobs and economic growth.

Pax Silica is a proposed high-tech manufacturing and innovation hub under the Luzon Economic Corridor that is expected to create 90,000 high-quality jobs for Filipinos.
