PG says permanent PNP chief to help release prosecutors’ firearms papers
Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento has admitted that the lack of a permanent Philippine National Police chief has contributed to the delays in the release of licenses and permits to carry firearms of government prosecutors.
“We have to realize that we have to wait until a permanent chief PNP is designated so that we can fully coordinate with him and address the matter,” he stressed.
Earlier, he called on the PNP to allow the release through its regional offices the prosecutors’ licenses and permits.
Malcontento explained that any delays in the release of licenses and permits would only put to grave risks the lives of prosecutors especially those in the provinces.
Malcontento issued the call amid the unabated fatal attacks on judges, prosecutors, and lawyers.
“We have to expedite the permit to carry, licenses,” he said.
Malcontento noted that prosecutors especially those coming from the provinces have to secure their licenses and permits at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
“So it has to be done kung pwede sa regional level at mabilis, ” he said.
“I am requesting this especially for the prosecutors,” Malcontento continued.
