Pepe Herrera reveals shared history with Chel Diokno

Artist and theater actor Pepe Herrera joined the ranks of Ebe Dancel, Johnoy Danao and Bullet Dumas in supporting the senatorial candidacy of Chel Diokno.

Herrera made a public endorsement for the abogado in an Instagram post, where he revealed that his parents were activists captured and tortured during Martial Law.

His father, he narrates, was jailed until 1986–a year before he was born—for helping fishermen against a corrupt politician.

“Who found him? My mother, the bravest woman I know. Who defended him in court? Jose ‘Pepe’ Diokno… With his courage and brilliance, he made sure that my father will get the Justice he deserved. My father was set free,” shared Herrera.

The actor then revealed a personal trivia: That his parents named him after their hero: Pepe Diokno, Chel’s father.

“And now his son, @cheldiokno, the father of my katukayo, @pepediokno, is running for senator. Eto ang mga taong masarap suportahan ng walang bahid ng salapi. Puso para sa mga kabayan lang ang puhunan. Sabagay, dapat yun palang, sapat sapat na.
I got your back sir @cheldiokno. I’ll be your portable and mobile human poster wherever I go,” he said.

Hindi lang si Ebe, Bullet, and Johnoy of #3D ang nagmamahal kay Chel D. because I also love the D! Seriously speaking, Break muna ako saglit sa pagpromote ng mga palabas na pampaligaya. Suportahan ko muna ang kapalaran ng ating bansa. Allow me to share a short story about my parents. Both were activists captured and tortured during Martial Law. My father was forcefully captured for helping fishermen against a corrupt politician. He was imprisoned and tortured in 1986. A year before I was born. I will spare you the gruesome details but in short, if he was not found and set free, he would have died and I would not be born. Who found him? My mother, the bravest woman I know. Who defended him in court? Jose “Pepe” Diokno. One of the most competent Senators during the Golden Age of Senate. Sila nila Jovito Salonga ang Dream Team ng Senado nung Martial Law. With his courage and brilliance, he made sure that my father will get the Justice he deserved. My father was set free. And my parents were so grateful that they named their bunso after their hero. Yes I was not named after Jose Rizal. Or Pepe Smith. I was named after the late senator Pepe Diokno. And now his son, @cheldiokno, the father of my katukayo, @pepediokno, is running for senator. This people do not have millions of money for campaigning. They help those who are in need without asking for money. And they are not Politicians. Chel Diokno, just like his father is not a Politician. He is a Public Servant. Napakalaki po ng pagkakaiba nun. That’s why when they reached out to me, my body mind and soul said yes right away. Eto ang mga taong masarap suportahan ng walang bahid ng salapi. Puso para sa mga kabayan lang ang puhunan. Sabagay, dapat yun palang, sapat sapat na. I got your back sir @cheldiokno. I’ll be your portable and mobile human poster wherever I go. Kasama niyo po ako sa pagpapatuloy ng mga Pangarap ng Tatay niyo para sa bansa natin. Para sa Tatay niyo ito at para sa Tatay ko. 🙏🙏🙏
