The gains achieved so far in protecting the Philippines’ interests in the West Philippine Sea under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may change under the next administration, Malacañang said on Monday as it stressed the need for continuity in preserving such gains.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Casteo made the statement after
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said a change in leadership following the 2028 polls could have an impact on the country’s strategy in the contested waters.

Teodoro said the next administration might slow down the momentum of the country’s efforts to assert its maritime rights.

Castro said Marcos hopes that the next President would continue upholding Filipino interests.
