Palace respects QC’s issuance of arrest warrant vs Sara Duterte

Malacañang on Friday said it respects the prerogrative of a Quezon City court to issue an arrest warrant against Vice President Sara Duterte over grave threats charges.

“Ginagalang ng Palasyo ang anumang desision o kautusan ng korte,” Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro said in a statement.

On Friday afternoon, a Quezon City regional trial court issued an arrest warrant against the Vice President over her threat to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his family made during an online press briefing in November 2024.

Last month, the Department of Justice filed three counts of grave threats against Duterte.

The Quezon City court set the bail at P 120,000 for each of the grave threats raps.

The Vice President filed a motion to quash the case on grounds of jurisdiction, saying she and other impeachable officers have limited procedural immunity while in office under the 1987 Constitution.

The grave threats raps is also one of the grounds cited in the Articles of Impeachment in Duterte’s ongoing impeachment trial before the Senate.
