Palace: P 197B earmarked for railway infrastructure in 2027 to ease traffic woes

The government is pushing for the allocation of P 197.3 billion for rail infrastructure projects for 2027 as part of its initiatives to improve rail transportation and ease traffic jams in the country, Malacañang said on Monday.

“Bilang pagtalima sa direktiba ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. na palakasin ang sektor ng transportasyon, isinusulong ng pamahalaan ang pagtaas ng budget para sa rail infrastructure na aabot sa P197.3 billion ngayong 2027,” said Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro in a press briefing.

The proposed amount is included in the 2027 National Expenditure Program, the Palace said.

Of this sum, P 123.84 billion is for the North-South Commuter Railway project that will connect Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Laguna.

Phase 1 of the Metro Manila Subway Project was allotted P 67.44 billion, while the P 1.17 billion for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project, P 1.94 billion for the MRT-3 rehabilitation project, and P 603 million for the LRT-1 South Extension Project.
