Palace: Marcos wants anti-dynasty law in place during his term

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants a law banning political dynasties before he steps down in 2028, Malacañang said on Thursday.

Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro made the remarks amid the Supreme Court’s directive for Congress to enact such a measure, which is mandated by the 1987 Constitution.

“Wala pa pong binabanggit na desisyon ang Supreme Court, alam na po natin na ito po ang isa sa mga priority bills ng Pangulo. Talagang ito po ay pinapamadali niya at gusto po niya hangga’t maaari sa panahon po niya ay maipasa ang anti-political dynasty law,” Castro said.

She said the President agreed that it is time to enact such a law, although the pace of its passage will depend on Congress.

“Pero still, lumabas naman din po ang desisyon ng Supreme Court, alam din po nila, gusto din po naman nila na magkaroon po talaga ng anti-political dynasty law,” she said.

Earlier, Marcos asked Congress to pass a law banning political dynasties and other anti-corruption measures.
