Palace: Marcos backs suspension in increase in property taxes

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. supports the suspension of the increase in property taxes amid a request from the Private Sector Advisory Council, Malacañang said on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the President met with the PSAC Infrastructure Sector Group – Real Estate to discuss issues in the business sector, including the matter of the property tax under Republic Act 12001 or the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act.

“Ang nais po nila ay magkaroon muna ng suspension dahil… Suspension ng pagtaas dahil sa nararanasan natin ngayon na krisis, parang hindi napapanahon ngayon na dagdagan pa natin ng pasanin ang mga property owners para po hindi naman makabigat pa sa bulsa nila. So, iyon po iyong nais nila na ma-suspend muna iyong pagtaas ng value ng real property,” Presidential Communications Office undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing.

She said the Department of Finance is already acting on the matter.

It may be recalled that Marcos previously asked Congress to suspend the RPVARA, which seeks to update the outdated real property valuation system and unify appraisal methods to be at par with international standards.
