Painter’s family question release of Julian Ongpin despite being ‘only suspect’ for death
The family of Bree Jonson, whose lifeless body was found inside a La Union hostel room she shared with the son of bilyonaryo Bobby Ongpin, seek clarity about why the man was released from custody.
Julian Ongpin was arrested for cocaine possession and use, but was eventually let go by authorities despite facing drug charges. He was also the last person seen with Jonson, who was eventually declared dead on arrival at a La Union hospital.
Ongpin claimed Jonson took her own life, but the family is not buying it.
“Despite presence of the crime’s corpus delicti, as well as availability of the only suspect for her death, the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Agoo, La Union, resolved to release Julian on the ground that his apprehension does not allegedly fall under any of the instances where warrantless arrest is allowed,” abogados from the Sunga Salandanan and Ampuan law offices said.
“As of now, Breanna’s family have yet to receive a final and conclusive autopsy report of Breanna’s body as well as a medicolegal report for Julian’s alleged injuries.”
