Ombudsman to take over probe of alleged DBP writeoff of Lopez loans
President Rodrigo Duterte is not done digging dirt on the bilyonaryo Lopez family and ABS-CBN, this time wanting a special government unit to carry out an investigation on the clan’s supposedly written off loans from a state bank.
Duterte took a swipe against the Kapamilya network on Monday night and said he will resist efforts to renew its franchise. He went on to spite the Lopezes for allegedly not paying billion-peso loans to the Development Bank of the Philippines, calling it a write-off even if the lender has said that it was simply sold off to a different creditor.
Ano na! Pilo Hilbay tweets anew about #IbalikAngABSCBN
A committee at the House of Representatives recently probed the issue, but Duterte is not satisfied.
“There were so many investigations about banking except that pagdating kila — sa kila Lopez, huminto sila. So nagkakaroon tayo ng problema diyan. Dumating sa akin ito in official capacity. Ang magawa ko lang nito is I think I’ll pass it on to the Ombudsman,” Duterte said. “Para sa akin ang Ombudsman ang pinaka- independent body na mag-solve nito.”
Men only: Duterte says Inday Sara will not run for president, men’s job only
The President said while this issue remains unresolved, he will put the Lopezes in a difficult situation as going easy on them would make it look like they were being rewarded “for committing criminal acts.”
