May pinaboran? Ombudsman slaps graps on Recom Echiverri over gov’t projects
Graft probers have indicted former Caloocan City mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri and two other officials over government projects without public biddings from 2010 to 2013.
Echiverri along with former city accountant Edna Centeno and former city budget officer Jesus Garcia were charged with three counts of graft before the Sandiganbayan.
Also, the Ombudsman found probable cause to charge Centeno and Garcia with two counts of falsification of public documents.
The former mayor was accused of favoring P.B. Grey Construction for the construction of a P19.3-million road located along Azalea and Sto. Niño streets from Feb. 2, 2010 to Oct. 13, 2011.
Furthermore, the Ombudsman sued Echiverri for extending unwarranted benefits to Red Scorpion Construction Supply for drainage improvement projects along M. Hizon Street between November 16, 2012 to March 31, 2013.
Graft investigators noted that Echiverri entered into the alleged anomalous contracts sans and proper ordinance approving the deals.
