Oli Reyes reveals more facts about Bernas, speculates on why he never made SC justice

UP Law Professor Oli Reyes paid tribute to the memory of Fr. Joaquin Bernas, SJ. The abogado speculated on why the constitutional expert and renowned Jesuit lawyer was never a part of the Supreme Court.

Reyes wondered if it is considered to be constitutional if he held a position as Associate Justice in the SC. The abogado also shared that many said that he has often declined appointments to the judiciary.

He also shared how he was the Head of PH Jesuits during the Martial Law. The abogado said he saw them through the 1978 raid of the Loyola House of Studies. Bernas also defended Fr. Archie Intengan against charges of then Minister Juan Ponce Enrile.

What a dent on everyone’s fight for freedom and human rights!
