Olalia taunts Imee over suggestion to sever ties with Iceland
National Union of People’s Lawyers secretary general Edre Olalia taunted Sen. Imee Marcos over her proposal to sever ties with Nordic country Iceland, which sponsored a resolution urging the United Nations Human Rights Commission to probe the human rights situation in the country.
Olalia described Marcos’ suggestion as “astonishingly cerebral and an immensely studied idea.”
He pointed out that the Philippines should cut ties with 18 UNHRC member countries as well that voted to adopt Iceland’s resolution.
On Thursday, 18 UNHRC member states, mostly European nations, voted to adopt Iceland’s resolution. A total of 14 voted no, while 15 abstained.
