No Pampanga flood control plan, no DPWH budget approval, Pangilinan says

Sen. Francis Pangilinan said he would oppose the approval of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ 2027 budget if it would fail to present a solid plan to address the massive flooding that hit Pampanga province recently.

Pangilinan visited Sen. Lito Lapid on Friday to check on its condition and distribute relief goods to affected residents.

Pangilinan stressed the need for the DPWH to have a master plan to address the province’s flood problem.

He noted that DPWH officials are scheduled to face the Senate this week to defend its proposed 2027 budget. He said he would support the spending plan if it is able to present a sufficient program for the flood issue.

“Hihilingin natin ang plano ng DPWH at ilalaban natin yung dagdag na budget at kapag hindi nila sinagot yung ating tanong na anong gagawin natin sa Pampanga, ano ang proyekto ninyo sa flood control, magkano ang budget na ilalaan ninyo, kapag hindi tayo nakuntento, hindi natin ipapasa ang budget nila,” he said.

The DPWH has a proposed budget of P643.95 billion for 2027.

Meanwhile, Pangliinan said his office is ready to provide assistance to Pampanga residents amid heavy rains.

He visited the towns of Santo Tomas and San Luis last week.
