New SC Justice delos Santos speaks to officials, employees
Newly-appointed Supreme Court Associate Justice Edgardo L. Delos Santos met last Monday high court officials and employees during his first flag ceremony at the SC quadrangle in Padre Faura Street, Manila.
Delos Santos, the 186th SC Associate Justice, returned to the SC having worked as Confidential Attorney for the then associate justice (later Chief Justice) Felix V. Makasiar in 1980.
“I am happy that I am given this chance to serve this great institution. Most of you may have heard that my appointment is my award for my faithful service to the Judiciary. However, the better award is my chance or opportunity to cultivate the jurisprudence through my lengthy experience in the trial court.”
“To serve the Highest Court of the Land is not a trophy for me to brag but a responsibility for me to honor and faithfully uphold. To my fellow workers and servants in the Supreme Court, rest assured that I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities and with utmost integrity,” delos Santos said.
Prior to his appointment to the SC, delos Santos was the Executive Justice of the Court of Appeals in Cebu City. He rose from the ranks having started his career in the Judiciary as a Court Legal Researcher while completing his studies at the University of San Carlos College of Law. He was born on June 12, 1952 in Palompon, Leyte, and will mandatorily retire on his 70th birthday in 2022.
He served as trial court judge in Dumaguete and Bacolod before his appointment to the appeals court.
