NBI told to explain Rappler’s harassment claim
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Sunday required agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) who served the arrest warrant on Rappler’s Maria Ressa to explain accusations that they threatened a staff of the online news outfit.
“We have asked the NBI agents concerned to explain the incident to the DOJ. We should be receiving such explanation by Monday. If warranted, we shall take the appropriate disciplinary action,” Guevarra said.
“We addressed the directive to the NBI director (Dante Gierran),” he added.
Rappler reporter Aika Rey claimed that an NBI agent ordered her to stop filming the incident or she would be arrested.
