NBI to examine mobile phones of PNP, PDEA operatives in Commonwealth shootout
The National Bureau of Investigation has started conducting forensic examination on the cellular phones of anti-narcotics policemen and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives who figured into a bloody shootout in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City recently.
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Sunday revealed this Sunday over radio station DZBB, adding the forensic examination was aimed at weaving through the mobile phones’ digital contents.
“Ngayon ay nagko-conduct sila ng forensic examination ng mga cell phones and other pieces of evidence gathered.”
“So malayo na ang narating ng NBI dito sa kanilang pagsisiyasat. Kaya nga lamang sa ngayon wala pa naman tayong very definite conclusion na makukuha dahil hindi pa naman tapos ang investigation kaya hintayin na lang natin mag-submit ng report ang NBI.
Kasi ginagawa nilang masusi ang kanilang imbestigasyon kasi napaka-sensitive nito, ” Guevarra said.
Just recently, PDEA and Philippine National Police operatives shot it out over a botched anti-drugs operations near a mall in Commonwealth Avenue.
The shootout resulted in the death of two policemen, one PDEA agent, and one informer, and injuries to several persons.
President Duterte has intervened in the investigation and directed the NBI to be the sole agency to do an independent and impartial probe.
For his part, Guevarra ordered the NBI to prioritize the probe.
“I have directed the NBI to give this investigation the highest priority in view of the public interest that the subject incident has generated and its impact on the government’s campaign against illegal drugs,” Guevarra said in a message. #
