NBI now probing P7-B flood control projects in Pulong Duterte Davao district

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is looking into flood control projects worth about P7 billion, not P1.9 billion as initially reported, in the 1st District of Davao City.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag said the P7 billion covers projects implemented from 2018 to 2024 in the district of Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte.

“Kulang pala yung figure na tinitignan namin na P1.9 billion na proyekto ng isang contractor, P7 billion pala ito mula ng 2018 hanggang 2024,” Matibag said.

He said the NBI would also seek documents from the Commission on Audit (COA) as it expands its investigation.

“So after nito, we will also issue a subpoena for documents to the Commission on Audit,” Matibag said.

The NBI earlier identified “red flags” in 47 of 100 flood control projects in the district.

The bureau had initially said the 47 projects were worth a combined P1.9 billion and were reportedly awarded to a single contractor.

The investigation is looking into alleged irregularities, including suspected ghost and substandard flood control projects.

The NBI has also served subpoenas on DPWH Davao Regional Director Juby Cordon and three construction companies in connection with the probe.

Cordon appeared at the NBI and DPWH Region XI submitted 10 boxes of documents sought by investigators.

The bureau earlier said it planned to subpoena 51 individuals linked to three construction companies involved in the projects, including Genesis88 Construction.#
