NBI nets another member of notorious Luffy syndicate

The Bureau of Immigration has arrested another member of the notorious Luffy syndicate last week in Pampanga.

Odaira Kai, a 35-year-old Japanese national, was apprehended at his condominium unit in San Fernando City, Pampanga on March 15.

BI commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said he issued a mission order for Odaira’s arrest upon the request of Japanese authorities.

Japanese authorities alleged that Odaira and his cohorts impersonated law enforcers to deceive an elderly victim into surrendering his ATM cards under the pretext of a police investigation.

Odaira managed to steal over Y 4 million or $ 27,000 from the victim through unauthorized withdrawals from the stolen ATM cards.

The Japanese national is now detained at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig CIty pending his deportation.
