NBI nabs ‘Mayaman Challenge’ host Francis Leo Marcos
Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday nabbed internet personality Francis Leo Marcos for alleged violation of Republic Act 8050 or the Optometry Law.
NBI Cyber Crimes Division chief Vic Lorenzo confirmed Marcos’ arrest in his Quezon City residence on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by a court in Baguio City.
Lorenzo disclosed that Marcos was accused of distributing eyeglasses without the approval and permission from the Philippine Association of Ophthalmology.
Marcos became ‘popular’ for his hit ‘Mayaman Challenge’ on social network where he would dare his affluent neighbors and friends to donate money and basic goods like rice to the poor.
As of this writing, the NBI has yet to give more details regarding Marcos’ arrest to reporters.
But aside from the pending case in Baguio City, Lorenzo confirmed that Marcos was also facing string of charges ranging from violence against women to estafa.
Lorenzo added that several NBI units have been investigating Marcos due to plethora of charges.
“May warrant kasi siya sa Republic Act 8050 doon sa Baguio. Yun ang sinerve muna namin sa kanya. Marami syang kaso. Vineverify namin sa Manila.. yung qualified human trafficking. Meron daw siya doon sa Gapan, Nueva Ecija yung sa violence against women. Tapos under investigation siya sa iba’t ibang unit namin, “Lorenzo said.
