NBI nabs fake Bong Go emissary
A scammer almost got away with his offer to use Senator Bong Go’s connections to help fast-track a POGO project in Albay.
Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation arrested a man who has been introducing himself as John Carlos Garcia, a supposed emissary of the presidential sidekick turned lawmaker, for extorting money from Luzon-based businessmen.
According to several complaints, Garcia was demanding cash from construction firm owners as grease money. They will then meet Go who will make their contracts and projects proceed with much ease.
The man reached out to several entrepreneurs in Albay, Laguna, Quezon and Rizal and amassed P6 million.
A complainant based in San Pablo, Laguna said Garcia namedropped Go as he demanded P1 million for her project to build a facility for a Philippine Offshore Gaming Corporation in Buhatan, Sto. Domingo in Albay and in Malunay, Quezon.
“Subject Garcia promised the victim that he will arrange a meeting between her and Senator Go but the meeting did not happen. The victim went to the office of Senator Go and was surprised to learn that Riano and Garcia are not employees of Senator Go,” the NBI said in a statement.
The man apparently has a standing warrant of arrest for previous estafa complaints.
