NBI nabs 3 persons for misrepresenting themselves as notary public
Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation have busted a fake notary public and arrested three persons during an operation in Quezon City recently.
In a press statement, NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric B. Distor identified the suspects as Pillar Tabucboc Paroan, Cherrie Acob Barabad, and Angelica Acob Barabad.
They were arrested on the strength of a complaint filed by an individual who claimed that the suspects have been using his notarial services/license without his consent.
According to the complainant, on February 6, 2020 a client went to their office requesting for a certification of a certain notarial document.
But verification with the complainant’s records showed that the document was not entered in his notarial books.
Complainant asked the client where did the document was notarized, for which, the client replied near the Land Transportation Office (LTO) at Biak na Bato in Quezon City.
Acting on the complaint, NBI-Anti-Human Trafficking Division operatives conducted the entrapment operation on July 3, 2020 at Banawe St., corner Florentino St., Quezon City.
The operation resulted in the arrest of the suspects who were caught in the act of misrepresenting themselves as notary public to clients from nearby LTO branch for a fee.
The suspects were brought for inquest to the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office
for Usurpation of Authority, Falsification of Public Documents, violation of Notarial Practice Law, Counterfeited Insigna, or Notarial Seal, and Estafa.
