NBI nabs 2 extorting BIR personnel
Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation have arrested two personnel of the Bureau of Internal Revenue during an entrapment operations in Quezon City.
National Bureau of Investigation Director Dante Gierran identified the suspects as Alfredo Pagdilao Jr. and Agripina Vallestero.
Their two other alleged accomplices, Rufo Ranario and Michelle dela Torre
remained at-large. All suspects were all assigned at the Revenue District Office in Pasig City.
Charges for plunder, extortion, graft, and other cases are now being readied by the NBI against them.
The suspects were arrested in a joint entrapment operation by the NBI and Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission in Quezon City last July 20.
Their arrest came after a complaint from the PACC for a telecommunications company, which claimed that the suspects were allegedly demanding P160 million to settle the firm’s alleged tax deficiency.
The amount, however, was reportedly reduced to P75 million during ‘negotiations.’
The PACC coordinated with the NBI to plan the entrapment of the suspects. On July 19, P10 million was delivered to the suspects with the remainder to be paid the following day.
The next day, July 20, the other tranche of the money was given to the suspects, but NBI agents jumped on them which resulted to their arrests.
