Nagbago na: De Lima disappointed with Guevarra’s claim that she will surely be convicted in drug cases
Senator Leila de Lima could not believe the 180-degree turn of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra’s attitude towards her as she faces two remaining drug charges.
The abogado, also a former Justice secretary, felt betrayed after learning that Guevarra claimed that her conviction is “inevitable” in two of the remaining cases that put her in jail for over three years now. The two apparently worked together before taking separate sides under President Rodrigo Duterte.
“I hate to say this, but I am very disappointed in Sec. Guevarra. Since he worked with us in the PNoy administration, he very well knows that I could not possibly have done what his Department and his President now are now moving heaven and earth to prove that I did,” De Lima said in a statement.
“If he is so confident about the inevitability of my conviction, then why does this government have to keep up the pressure on the judiciary just to convict me?,” the politiko added. “Maybe that is why he is so confident. He is so confident on Duterte’s hold on the judicial system he seems to foreclose the possibility that the judicial system will somehow correct itself and soon refuse to be manipulated by a tyrant.”
